J/V Interplan - Euphon resulted second classified candidate at the architectural competition for the Italian Pavilion at EXPO 2005 in AICHI, Japan.
The design for the Pavilion comprised a variety of different disciplines: from those associated to communications and the spectacular aspect of the exhibition contents, to museography, scenography, lighting design, and long haul logistics, construction, assembly. Therefore, one of the main objectives of the project management team has been the integration of all specialized contributions into a single consistent plan, economically and timely feasible.
The most properly architectural objectives of the design are defined as follows:
To provide the Pavilion visitors a space adequate for a multi-sensorial experience unprecedented and effective on the theme “the Italian art of life” within the general Expo theme “Nature’s wisdom”
To construct the Pavilion with materials and techniques environmentally sustainable, which would allow its integration with the EXPO eco-park
To reach these objectives the following criteria were identified:
To develop a “communication machine” based on the storyboard provided, capable of conveying messages and content aiming to all human senses through state of the art technology
To integrate all system contributing to this device with an intense and ever-changing spatial configuration, corresponding to an articulated but clear and intuitive visiting tour.
